Lampung told to fight river pollution
BANDAR LAMPUNG: Mat Alamin Kraying, a member of the House of Representatives, called on the provincial administration to respond to increasing complaints of river pollution caused by factories in the province.
"The people and non-governmental organizations have frequently complained about river pollution caused by factories, but so far no action has been taken," he said during a tour of villages located near rivers in the provincial capital on Saturday.
Mat also said he had received numerous complaints from villagers that factories operating along the city's rivers frequently dumped their waste water directly into the rivers.
"The pollution has affected thousands of families living along the rivers, since much of their daily activities take place on the rivers," he said.
According to him, the provincial administration should take stern action against polluting factories. --Antara
