Lampung told to curb illegal logging
BANDAR LAMPUNG: Lampung Governor Oemarsono instructed the
local forestry ministry office to take strict action against all
parties involved in illegal logging in the province.
"We must take action against all parties involved in illegal
logging, regardless of their status and position, and we must
continue promoting the sustainable development program to
preserve forests and the environment in the province," he said
here on Thursday.
Oemarsono called on the forestry ministry to enhance
coordination with local police and the prosecutor's office to
launch a joint operation to stop the illegal logging and
prosecute those involved.
So far, the provincial authorities have seized thousands of
cubic meters of logs taken from forest areas and the Kambas
National Park.
