Lampung Thief Leaps into 10-Metre Ravine After Being Caught Stealing Motorcycle
Police have arrested a motorcycle theft suspect in West Lampung Regency. The pursuit unfolded dramatically after one of the perpetrators fled by jumping into a ravine.
The incident occurred in Way Tenong District on Saturday (13/6). The victim, Asir Rudin (34), initially caught the perpetrators making off with his motorcycle from in front of his house.
“The victim saw his motorcycle being taken by the perpetrators directly. When the victim shouted for help from residents, both perpetrators panicked and tried to escape,” said West Lampung Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, First Inspector Rudy Prawira, on Monday (15/6/2026).
Two perpetrators were involved in the theft. When their actions were discovered, the perpetrator acting as executor fled, abandoning the victim’s motorcycle and escaping with his accomplice.
Upon receiving the report from residents, police immediately set up blockades at several points based on the perpetrators’ direction of escape. Approximately 15 minutes after the report was received, police spotted both perpetrators passing through the Fajar Bulan area. Officers then pursued them to Pekon Simpang Sari, Sumber Jaya District. As officers were about to stop them, both perpetrators fell into a cliff area and plunged into a ravine approximately 10 metres deep.
“Our personnel continued the pursuit even though the perpetrators entered the ravine area. This is a form of our commitment to responding quickly to any criminal acts that disturb the community,” said Rudy.
From the pursuit, police managed to arrest a perpetrator named Hendra bin Bunyamin, a resident of Tanjung Ratu Ilir Village, Way Pengubuan District, Central Lampung Regency. Meanwhile, the other perpetrator, named Obi Erlangga, managed to escape towards a residential area and is still being hunted by the Tekab 308 Team of the West Lampung Police.
