Lampung Provincial Government Pushes Green Energy Investment, Bioethanol Industrial Project Ready to Develop
The central government and the Lampung Provincial Government are accelerating the development of the bioethanol industry, conducting a direct inspection of the proposed site for a bioethanol plant and the sorghum feedstock development area in Lampung on Tuesday (9/6/2026). The visit was led by Deputy Minister for Investment and Downstreaming and Deputy Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Todotua Pasaribu, together with Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, following a Coordination and Synergy Meeting on the Construction of a Bioethanol Plant held in the VVIP Lounge of Radin Inten II Airport, South Lampung.
The delegation, comprising officials from the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (PNRE), Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, PTPN, academics, and other stakeholders, inspected the proposed site for a bioethanol pilot plant in Tegineneng, Pesawaran, and the sorghum cultivation development area in Rejosari, Natar, South Lampung. The inspection was carried out to ensure the readiness of land, availability of raw materials, infrastructure support, and integration of areas that will become part of the bioethanol industry ecosystem development in Lampung.
During the coordination and synergy meeting for the Lampung bioethanol development project, Todotua Pasaribu asserted that Lampung is one of the priority regions in national bioethanol development. According to him, the province possesses several strategic advantages, ranging from an abundant supply of raw materials and adequate infrastructure to a strong commitment from the local government in supporting investment.
National bioethanol demand itself is projected to increase steadily alongside the implementation of the E10 bioethanol blending programme for petrol, which is targeted to begin gradual implementation in 2028. Therefore, the government is pushing for the acceleration of the bioethanol industry development to strengthen national energy security whilst simultaneously reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
