Lampung Provincial Government Allocates 217 Housing Units for Tuberculosis Patients

Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - The Lampung Provincial Government has allocated 217 units of Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) for tuberculosis (TB) patients in 2026.

“Cross-sectoral intervention is essential in tackling TB, and this can be achieved through the provision of healthy housing for communities affected by TB,” said Lampung Deputy Governor Jihan Nurlela in a statement issued in Bandarlampung on Thursday.

“Delayed TB treatment not only impacts health, but also reduces community productivity and can worsen families’ economic conditions,” she said.

She said other TB control efforts could be carried out by expanding Tuberculosis Preventive Therapy (TPT) coverage for household contacts of TB patients as a means of breaking the chain of transmission.

“Furthermore, the formation of TB Alert Villages needs to be accelerated. To date, West Tulang Bawang Regency has yet to issue a decree establishing any TB Alert Villages,” she said.

Meanwhile, 252 TB Alert Villages have already been established across other regencies and cities in Lampung Province.

“West Tulang Bawang Regency has recorded very high treatment success rates, but still faces serious challenges in finding and reporting new cases to the Tuberculosis Information System (SITB), so this needs to be addressed as soon as possible,” she added.

According to her, the high treatment success rate confirms that the main challenge at present is finding undiagnosed TB patients so that transmission can be broken promptly.

“Therefore, to accelerate progress towards the 2030 TB elimination target, the West Tulang Bawang Regency Government can work together with the Lampung Provincial Health Office to develop micro planning down to the community health centre (puskesmas) level, to strengthen the implementation of Active Case Finding through detailed target mapping and regular monitoring of achievements during the July-November 2026 period,” she said.

Previously, West Tulang Bawang Regency recorded a Treatment Success Rate (TSR) of 94 per cent for drug-sensitive TB (DS) patients and 100 per cent for drug-resistant TB (DR) patients.

However, the Case Notification Rate (CNR) has only reached 15 per cent, with just 120 cases detected out of an estimated 826, making it one of the regions with the lowest TB notification rates nationally.
