Lampung Police Foil Smuggling of 5 kg of Methamphetamine in Bakauheni

The Narcotics Directorate of the Lampung Regional Police successfully thwarted the circulation of 5 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine and 202 ecstasy pills at Bakauheni Port, South Lampung Regency. Police arrested four individuals suspected of playing different roles in the inter-provincial narcotics network. The suspects have the initials HS, HR, HB, and DK. HB is known to be a member of the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob), whilst DK is an active Indonesian Navy personnel. The case was uncovered through swift work and development conducted by the Lampung Police Narcotics Directorate in the Seaport Interdiction area of Bakauheni Port. Police seized evidence including three large packages of methamphetamine weighing approximately 5 kilogrammes, 202 ecstasy pills, a black backpack, four mobile phones, and two vehicles used by the perpetrators. The economic value of the seized evidence is estimated at over IDR 5 billion for the methamphetamine and approximately IDR 60.6 million for the ecstasy pills. This success has saved the public from the threat of narcotics abuse. It is estimated that around 150,000 people could have been saved from methamphetamine abuse and 202 people from ecstasy pill abuse. Lampung Police ensured the case handling is conducted professionally and transparently. The investigation for the civilian suspects and the Brimob member is being carried out by the Lampung Police Narcotics Directorate. The handling of the Navy personnel has been transferred to the Navy Military Police Detachment according to its authority. Coordination with relevant institutions continues to ensure the law enforcement process proceeds according to applicable mechanisms. There is no special treatment for those involved. The suspects are charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, which carries a maximum penalty of death, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years in prison. Lampung Police urged the public to actively provide information if they are aware of any narcotics abuse or illicit trafficking. The chronology of the case began on Saturday (27/6) at around 12.30 WIB, when officers secured HR in the Seaport Interdiction area of Bakauheni Port. An examination of his mobile phone revealed suspected narcotics transactions. The investigation then led to HS and HB, who were in a vehicle queue heading to the ferry. Interrogation revealed that a bag containing narcotics had been taken onto the ship by DK. Officers immediately pursued and successfully secured DK along with a black backpack containing three packages of methamphetamine and two packages of ecstasy pills. All suspects and evidence were then taken to the Lampung Police Narcotics Directorate for further legal proceedings.
