Lampung Regional Police (Polda Lampung) is moving swiftly to ensure public safety during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday period in 2026. Thousands of joint security personnel will oversee both the homecoming exodus and return traffic flows.

The force confirmed the readiness of personnel and supporting facilities through the implementation of Operation Ketupat Krakatau 2026, scheduled to run from 13 to 25 March 2026.

Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Helfi Assegaf said that 3,724 joint personnel would be deployed to ensure the smooth and safe passage of millions of travellers from Ramadan through the peak of the return traffic after Eid.

Of the total personnel strength, 1,770 officers come from the police force, with the remainder drawn from cross-agency support including the Transport Agency, Health Agency, Civil Service Police Unit, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI).

“Our security measures focus on preventive and pre-emptive steps, supported by law enforcement and public relations activities, so that the public feels safe and well served,” he said in a statement on Thursday (19 February).

80 Posts Prepared, Bakauheni as Command Centre

To support field operations, strengthen security, and ensure optimal service delivery, Helfi said Polda Lampung would establish 80 posts at strategic locations throughout the Eid homecoming period.

“Of the 80 posts, 60 are Security Posts serving as information centres and crime deterrence points, 20 are Service Posts for rest stops and health checks for travellers, and one is an Integrated Post at Bakauheni Port serving as the command centre for Operation Ketupat Krakatau 2026,” he said.

Anticipating Peak Homecoming Traffic and Congestion

Inspector General Helfi also stressed the importance of vigilance during the predicted peak homecoming period of 13–17 March and the peak return traffic of 24–28 March 2026.

One key focus is traffic engineering management towards the Bakauheni Port area. Polda Lampung has prepared scenarios including the use of stickers for vehicle filtering in buffer zones and the implementation of a delaying system.

“If the vehicle queue outside the port exceeds four kilometres — classified as a red zone — vehicles will be directed to parking bays at eight rest areas along toll road lane B as well as several roadside restaurants on the arterial route to prevent vehicle build-up at the dock area,” he explained.

Hazardous Points and Road Conditions

Beyond congestion, Inspector General Helfi also warned travellers to be aware of damaged road sections and accident-prone points across Lampung.

In Central Lampung Regency, there are damaged road points at 40 locations, whilst South Lampung has eight accident-prone points along the Trans-Sumatra Highway and the Eastern Cross Road.

In the overall hazard mapping, the police have recorded 102 damaged road points and 45 accident-prone locations in Lampung that are receiving serious attention.

“The safety and security of the public during their worship and Eid al-Fitr celebrations is our top priority. We are committed to reducing accident numbers and road fatalities during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr period,” he explained.

He added that security measures would not focus solely on traffic flow. Officers have also mapped security arrangements for 3,832 mosques, 2,066 Eid prayer locations, 209 tourist sites, and transport hubs including airports and railway stations across Lampung Province.

“With these thorough preparations, it is hoped that the 2026 Eid Homecoming in Lampung Province will be safe, smooth, and memorable for all members of the public,” he concluded.
