Lampung Governor Supports Eradication of Narcotics and Illegal Firearms
Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal attended the destruction of narcotics evidence and illegal firearms held by the Lampung Regional Police (Polda Lampung) at the Polda Lampung Precision Multipurpose Building on Wednesday, 29 July 2026. His presence signified support for the firm actions of law enforcement in protecting the younger generation from the threat of narcotics crimes.
The activity was led directly by Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Helfi Assegaf and attended by Pangdam XII/Raden Intan, along with other elements of the Lampung Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), representatives from the High Prosecutor’s Office, the High Court, the National Narcotics Agency of Lampung Province, and Customs and Excise.
In his remarks, Inspector General Helfi Assegaf explained that geographically, Lampung Province holds a strategic position as the gateway from Sumatra Island to Java Island. Consequently, the region has a high vulnerability to illicit narcotics trafficking and circulation. "We cannot allow this situation to continue. Polda Lampung is fully committed to supporting the Asta Cita programme of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, particularly in strengthening legal reform and eradicating narcotics. Drugs are a common enemy that destroys the future of the nation’s generation, so they must not be given the slightest space in Bumi Ruwa Jurai," said Inspector General Helfi.
Besides the narcotics threat, the Police Chief also highlighted the prevalence of conventional crimes such as aggravated theft, violent theft, and motor vehicle theft, which often involve homemade firearms. Therefore, Polda Lampung is prioritising pre-emptive, preventive, and repressive measures, while urging the public to voluntarily surrender homemade firearms to prevent misuse.
Inspector General Helfi detailed that during the period from January to July 2026, Polda Lampung successfully uncovered 29 narcotics crime cases with 35 suspects. The evidence destroyed included 119.1 kilograms of methamphetamine, 58.2 kilograms of cannabis, 35,166 ecstasy pills, 19,996 happy five pills, 4,186 pieces of etomidate, and 2,500 grams of liquid etomidate. The total economic value of all the evidence was estimated at approximately Rp264.979 billion. He noted that this destruction was estimated to have saved around 829,264 lives from the threat of drug abuse. All evidence had received destruction orders from the District Attorney’s Offices of Bandar Lampung, South Lampung, and Tanggamus.
Polda Lampung and its resort police stations also received the voluntary surrender of 166 homemade firearms and 114 rounds of ammunition from the public, consisting of 147 short-barrelled weapons and 19 long-barrelled weapons. The Police Chief appreciated the increased public awareness in surrendering illegal firearms as a form of participation in maintaining security and order in Lampung Province. He also invited the public to utilise the Siger Presisi application or the Police 110 service to report suspected narcotics abuse or illegal firearm possession. "The public does not need to confront perpetrators directly. Just report it through the Siger Presisi application or the Police 110 service, and officers will follow up on the report professionally," he said.
Following the press conference, the activity continued with the testing of narcotics evidence samples, the signing of the evidence destruction report, and a symbolic destruction using an incinerator machine. Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, together with the Police Chief and the Military Commander, participated in the symbolic destruction of the narcotics evidence. The activity concluded with the destruction of the illegal firearms surrendered by the public, as a shared commitment to creating a safe, orderly Lampung Province free from the threats of narcotics and illegal weapons. Through strengthened collaboration between the Provincial Government, law enforcement, and the community, the eradication of narcotics and illegal firearms circulation is expected to become increasingly effective, supporting the realisation of Advanced Lampung towards Golden Indonesia 2045.
