Lampung Governor Introduces Biofertiliser to Boost Coffee Productivity

Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal continues to drive transformation in the plantation sector through the application of environmentally friendly technological innovation to boost productivity and the welfare of coffee farmers. One such step was demonstrated when Rahmat Mirzani Djausal inspected the Hanakau Mother Garden owned by the UPTD Seed Centre and Mother Garden (BBKI) of the Lampung Province Plantation Office in Pekon Hanakau, Sukau District, West Lampung Regency, on Thursday (9/7). During a dialogue with farmers, Rahmat Mirzani Djausal introduced the innovation of Liquid Biofertiliser (PHC), which is now being applied at the Hanakau Mother Garden. PHC is an organic fertiliser based on local microorganisms produced from environmentally friendly materials, such as coconut waste, soybean waste, and rice washing water. According to him, the use of PHC can significantly increase plant growth, making leaves greener, accelerating flowering, enlarging fruit size, and improving soil fertility, thereby reducing dependence on chemical fertilisers. The application of PHC at the Hanakau Mother Garden began in 2025 on a two-hectare demonstration plot. The results showed a significant improvement compared to plants that did not use PHC. One of the most notable achievements is the acceleration of the coffee plant production period. Seedlings that typically only begin to bear fruit and can be harvested after three years are now able to produce fruit at 1.5 to two years of age. ‘The coffee cherries appear larger, the quality is better, and plant growth is more optimal,’ said Rahmat Mirzani Djausal in a written statement on Monday (13/7/2026). He further emphasised that agricultural innovations such as PHC are part of the Lampung Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of the plantation sector while increasing farmers’ incomes through the application of technology that is cheap, easy to implement, and environmentally friendly. As a form of support for farmers, he also handed out samples of PHC in bottled packaging so they could be directly tested on their own land. During the visit, Rahmat Mirzani Djausal was accompanied by West Lampung Deputy Regent Mad Hasnurin along with officials from the Lampung Provincial Government and the West Lampung Regency Government. The group toured the coffee plantation, which serves as a demonstration, research, and superior coffee seed development centre in Lampung Province. The Hanakau Mother Garden is one of the coffee development centres that applies various modern cultivation methods and plant care techniques to increase productivity and harvest quality. Two main types of coffee are developed at the site, namely robusta and arabica. For robusta, several national superior clones are available, such as BP 939, BP 936, BP 534, and BP 436, as sources of quality seeds. In addition, the garden also develops potential local clones such as Kopi Bagio, Turun Ujung, Bodong, and Tugu Sari, which are being prepared to become certified superior varieties. Meanwhile, around 200 arabica coffee trees are planted as an adaptation trial in the highland area of Sukau. Mad Hasnurin expressed appreciation for the Governor’s attention to the development of coffee commodities in West Lampung. ‘We thank and appreciate the Governor of Lampung for coming directly to the Hanakau Mother Garden to see the potential of West Lampung coffee,’ he said. According to Mad Hasnurin, the Governor’s presence serves as motivation for farmers and demonstrates the provincial government’s commitment to improving coffee quality and productivity through the Liquid Biofertiliser innovation. ‘We hope this programme can continue to be developed so that the welfare of coffee farmers increases and West Lampung coffee becomes more competitive,’ he concluded.
