Lampung Governor: Anak Krakatau still erupting, periodic monitoring continues
Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal has said that the regional government continues to carry out periodic monitoring due to the ongoing eruptive activity of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK).
“Based on the monitoring period, it can be seen that the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau up to today still shows eruptions. So we continue to monitor this activity periodically,” said Rahmat Mirzani Djausal in Bandarlampung on Sunday.
He said that visually, today, Sunday (6/9), Mount Anak Krakatau is covered in smoke fog and the crater cannot be observed. The weather today is cloudy, with light winds blowing from the northeast and northwest.
“We also report that volcanic ash continues to move towards the southwest and slightly towards the northwest. Of course, this condition is influenced by the wind direction on the previous day, which blew from the northwest and north,” he said.
He continued that the regional government and related parties have been conducting observations since Friday (4/9) regarding the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.
Eruptive activity of Mount Anak Krakatau was recorded from Friday (4/9) and continued until Saturday (5/9) from 00.00 to 05.00 WIB, with ash carried by the wind to several areas, including Lampung Province.
However, the eruptive activity temporarily stopped and volcanic ash began to decrease on Sunday (6/9) at 00.04 WIB, but eruptions occurred again in the morning from 06.00 to 12.00 WIB, with wind direction towards the southwest and northwest carrying volcanic ash.
“This volcanic ash really depends on the strength of the wind and also the height of the eruption itself. So we need to remain vigilant and reduce outdoor activities,” he said.
According to him, the volcanic ash from the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption has affected several districts in Lampung Province, namely South Lampung Regency, Bandarlampung City, Pesawaran, Pringsewu, Tanggamus and West Pesisir.
“And this shows that eruptive activity is still ongoing, so the public is expected to remain calm and increase their vigilance,” he added.
