Lampung establishes legal assistance posts down to village level
Bandarlampung — Indonesia’s Justice Minister Supratman Andi Agtas stated that Lampung Province has become one of the regions to comprehensively establish legal assistance posts (Posbankum) down to village and subdistrict level.
“Today Lampung Province has formally established 2,651 Posbankum. This is an important step to ensure that access to justice can be felt by all members of society, particularly those who have previously struggled to obtain legal services,” he said in Bandarlampung on Monday.
He explained that the presence of Posbankum represents part of the central government’s programme to expand access to legal assistance for the public, especially vulnerable groups with limited education or financial means.
According to him, legal access gaps have persisted because legal services have been more easily accessible to people with adequate financial capacity or education.
“Justice has often been enjoyed only by those with superior capital or education. Therefore, the state must ensure that ordinary people also receive equal access to legal services,” he said.
Taufiqurrakhman, head of the regional office of the Justice Ministry in Lampung Province, explained that the establishment of Posbankum in Lampung has reached 100 per cent of all villages and subdistricts.
“A total of 2,651 legal assistance posts in villages and subdistricts have been established. Additionally, 5,302 paralegals are ready to provide legal services to the community,” he said.
He added that in 2025 the government has also conducted paralegal training involving approximately 3,800 participants to strengthen the capacity of legal assistance services at village level.
Various legal cases in the community have been successfully resolved through mediation mechanisms by Posbankum without having to go through court proceedings. These include the resolution of domestic conflict in Natar Village, South Lampung, and a land dispute between heirs in Rejomulyo Subdistrict, Metro City.
In addition to the inauguration of Posbankum, the event also saw the presentation of commendation certificates to 15 regencies and cities in Lampung Province for their support in establishing Posbankum.
The Justice Minister also awarded the Lampung Governor recognition for successfully establishing 2,651 Posbankum across all villages and subdistricts.
With Posbankum present in villages and subdistricts, the government hopes that various legal issues can be resolved more quickly through mediation and legal consultation, whilst simultaneously increasing legal awareness among the community in Lampung Province.
