Lampung-1 Satellite to Launch Tomorrow from China

Lampung Province will soon have its own satellite named Lampung-1. The satellite will hitch a ride on a rocket owned by Star Vision and is set to lift off from the waters off Shandong, China, on Wednesday (5/8/2026). The satellite is the result of cooperation between the provincial government, Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Uzcosmos Uzbekistan, and Star Vision. It is designed to support the acceleration of marine economic growth, as well as to strengthen environmental governance and industrial collaboration in Lampung. Lampung-1 uses multi-band hyperspectral imaging technology with AI computing, allowing data processing to be carried out directly in orbit. This enables the satellite to produce accurate, intelligent, and easily accessible information for various users. The satellite will head to orbit alongside Uzbekistan’s Samarkand satellite using the OSE Hyperspectral Twin Satellite carrier rocket. The development cost of the satellite is not funded by the Lampung regional budget (APBD) but is fully covered by Star Vision Aerospace. Following the signing of a Letter of Intent last year with Star Vision, Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal stated that the satellite could be used to detect floods and landslides, as well as forest fires through surface imaging. Lampung-1 can also be utilised to monitor the condition of rivers, beaches, and marine ecosystems, including detecting pollution. Furthermore, the satellite can assist farmers and the government with harvest planning, all based on data. “Everything is data-based,” said Mirza.
