Lampung-1 Satellite Successfully Launched from Sea Platform in China

The Lampung-1 satellite has been successfully launched from a platform in the waters near Shandong, China. The launch, which hitched a ride on a rocket manufactured by Star Vision, was broadcast live on the Chinese company’s LinkedIn account. The satellite is the result of a collaboration between the Lampung provincial government, Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Uzbekistan’s Uzcosmos, and Star Vision. Footage of the launch showed the rocket taking off smoothly and vertically from a large vessel at sea, carrying both the Lampung-1 and Uzbekistan’s Samarkand satellite. Lampung-1 is designed to support the acceleration of maritime economic growth, as well as to strengthen environmental governance and industrial collaboration in Lampung. The satellite employs multi-band hyperspectral imaging technology with AI computation, allowing data processing to be conducted directly in orbit. This enables the satellite to produce intelligent information that is easily accessible to various users. The development cost of the satellite was not covered by the Lampung regional budget but was fully borne by Star Vision Aerospace. Following the signing of a Letter of Intent with Star Vision last year, Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal stated that the satellite could be used to detect floods, landslides, and forest fires through surface imaging. Lampung-1 can also be utilised to monitor the condition of rivers, beaches, and marine ecosystems, including detecting pollution. Another application of the satellite is to assist farmers and the government with harvest management, with all operations being data-driven.
