Lamongan Regency Strengthens Support for National Food Self-Sufficiency
The Lamongan Regency Government in East Java has declared its readiness to strengthen its commitment to supporting the central government’s priority programmes, particularly national food self-sufficiency.
Bupati Lamongan Yuhronur Efendi said the national policy direction delivered by President Prabowo Subianto aligns with Lamongan’s key potential as one of the nation’s food baskets.
“The regional government will continue to be committed to supporting various government programmes so that their benefits are increasingly felt by the community. Lamongan is ready to strengthen its contribution to national food self-sufficiency,” he said in Lamongan, East Java, on Friday.
The statement was made after he watched President Prabowo Subianto’s state address at the 2026 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD), broadcast online from the DPR/MPR/DPD building in Jakarta.
Yuhronur explained that this support is being realised through accelerating the expansion of planting areas, rehabilitating irrigation networks, providing water pumps, distributing agricultural machinery and equipment (alsintan), and strengthening farmer institutions.
According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Lamongan’s rice production in 2025 reached approximately 904,928 tonnes of milled dry grain (GKG) with a harvested area of around 153,380 hectares.
“This achievement places Lamongan as the region with the highest rice production in East Java and strengthens our role as a buffer for national food security,” he said.
He added that by the first half of 2026, the realised expansion of rice planting area in Lamongan had reached approximately 61,000 hectares, or around 32 percent of the annual target.
The government is also continuing to strengthen support for the agricultural sector through irrigation optimisation, water pump assistance, and farmer mentoring as part of efforts to support national food security.
Beyond the agricultural sector, he continued, Lamongan also has significant potential in capture fisheries and aquaculture, processing industries, and the coastal areas of Paciran and Brondong, which form one of the marine economy hubs in East Java.
According to him, the spirit of independence must be realised through collective work, mutual cooperation, and service to the community.
“Lamongan will continue to synergise in supporting the national development agenda towards an increasingly advanced and prosperous Indonesia,” he said.
As is known, the Bupati of Lamongan, together with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) and local DPRD members, attended the annual session as part of a series of activities to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
