Lamongan Regency Government and Customs Seize 9,108 Illegal Cigarettes
The Lamongan Regency Government, together with the Gresik Intermediate Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office (KPPBC TMP B), has seized 9,108 illegal cigarettes in an operation targeting illicit excisable goods across four sub-districts in the region.
Head of the Lamongan Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Ahmad Edwin Anedi, stated on Tuesday that the operation reflects the local government’s commitment to suppressing the circulation of illegal cigarettes while protecting state revenue from the excise sector.
“We will continue to conduct regular operations to eradicate illegal cigarettes. Beyond curbing their circulation, this effort aims to maintain optimal state revenue, which in turn is utilised to support development and public welfare,” he said.
He explained that the joint operation, involving the Gresik KPPBC, the Lamongan District Attorney’s Office, the Communication and Informatics Office, and the Regional Secretariat’s Economy and Natural Resources Division, targeted the sub-districts of Glagah, Karangbinangun, Pucuk, and Babat.
Based on the results, officers found 6,520 illegal cigarettes in Glagah, 2,508 in Babat, and 80 in Pucuk, while no violations were discovered in Karangbinangun.
Edwin noted that the operation targeted violations including cigarettes without excise bands, those with counterfeit bands, used bands, and bands not matching their intended designation. All evidence seized in this operation consisted of cigarettes with excise bands that did not match their intended designation. The evidence has been confiscated and secured by KPPBC TMP B Gresik for further processing in accordance with the law.
In addition to enforcement, the Lamongan Regency Government is intensifying public education to encourage the use and trade of cigarettes that comply with excise regulations. This aims to reduce the circulation of illegal cigarettes and optimise the utilisation of the Tobacco Excise Revenue Sharing Fund (DBHCHT) for regional development.
