Lamongan, East Java (ANTARA) - The Lamongan Regency’s Office of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning (DP3AKB) views the implementation of regulations or laws on child protection in the digital realm as an important step to safeguard the younger generation from various risks in cyberspace.

Head of DP3AKB Lamongan, Aini Masidha, stated that the policy, which begins to apply on 28 March 2026, is expected to provide more comprehensive protection, particularly from threats such as cyberbullying, exploitation, and social media addiction.

“This regulation aims to protect children from threats like cyberbullying, exploitation, and social media addiction,” she said in Lamongan on Saturday.

She explained that the regulation governs several obligations for digital platforms, including conducting risk assessments on the products and services provided.

“Access controls such as parental supervision features or parental controls are also an important part to allow parents to regulate the use of digital services,” she said.

DP3AKB Lamongan also views the obligation for labelling or content classification as a strategic step to ensure the level of safety and suitability of materials for young users.

According to Aini, the policy not only focuses on access restrictions but also encourages strengthening the family’s role in shaping character in the digital era.

She added that parental involvement is very necessary so that the younger generation can utilise technology in a healthy, productive, and non-excessive manner.

As an effort to support this policy, DP3AKB Lamongan is partnering with several women’s community organisations, such as Fatayat NU, Muslimat NU, and Aisyiyah, to conduct education and strengthen the family’s role in the community.

This collaboration is manifested through anti-violence socialisation programmes, in the form of campaigns and education to the public on preventing domestic violence (KDRT) as well as child rights protection, including in the utilisation of digital spaces.

In addition, the local office is also optimising services through the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for Women’s and Child Protection (UPTD PPA) as a supporting step for the central government’s policy.

Through these services, the local government provides handling and assistance for victims of violence against women and children, including those related to the negative impacts of digital media use.

The implementation of the child protection law in the digital realm is expected to strengthen the character building of the younger generation and encourage the creation of a more positive social environment amid the rapid development of information technology.
