Lamongan Police Investigate House Burning in Paciran
Lamongan, East Java — Lamongan Police are investigating a house fire and destruction of several vehicles in Tlogosadang Village, Paciran District, Lamongan Regency, which is allegedly connected to a series of stabbing incidents in Gresik Regency.
Head of Public Relations at Lamongan Police, Ipda M Hamzaid, stated that the incident occurred on Friday 27 February at approximately 23:15 Western Indonesian Time, with reports received by officers around 23:30 WIB. Police and firefighting personnel immediately proceeded to the scene.
“Officers from Paciran Police Substation arrived at the crime scene after receiving reports from residents and conducted preliminary investigation and further inquiry,” he said when contacted in Lamongan, East Java, on Saturday.
Based on data collected, the burnt object was a garage measuring approximately 6 by 12 metres, along with several vehicles belonging to Saifudin (45), a resident of Tlogosadang Village, comprising one car and five motorcycles.
There were no fatalities or injuries in the incident, though material losses are estimated at approximately 120 million rupiah. Initial indications suggest the fire resulted from arson by a mob.
Firefighting personnel from Lamongan Satpol PP (Civil Service Police Unit) Paciran sector deployed one water supply unit and successfully extinguished the fire at around 00:15 WIB, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.
He added that police are still investigating the motive and parties involved in the incident.
For context, the homeowner, identified as S (45), was previously detained by Gresik Police in connection with a stabbing case involving two youths in Campurejo Village, Panceng District, Gresik Regency, during sahur patrol activities. That incident is believed to have triggered the arson attack in Paciran.
