Lamongan Holds Lantern Parade to Mark Islamic New Year 1 Muharram
The Lamongan Regency government held a commemoration of the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah in front of the local Pendopo on Monday evening. The effort served as a moment for reflection, strengthening spiritual values, and fostering ukhuwah, or brotherhood, amongst the community. This year’s Islamic New Year observance was filled with reciting the beginning-of-year prayer together and a lantern parade.
Bupati Lamongan Yuhronur Efendi stated that the turn of the Islamic New Year is not merely a marker of passing time, but an opportunity to open a new page with the spirit of hijrah towards a better life and to reinforce the commitment to developing Lamongan. ‘The 1 Muharram momentum invites us to introspect, strengthen our faith, and maintain the spirit of gotong royong in realising a more advanced and megilan Lamongan,’ said the Bupati, who is familiarly called Pak Yes.
According to him, the various development achievements Lamongan has attained deserve gratitude. Various welfare and development indicators show optimism and a tangible impact for a community that continues to move forward. These achievements are important capital that must be safeguarded and enhanced together.
The series of activities commemorating Muharram 1448 H began with various Islamic-themed performances, including gambus music and sufi dance. The peak of the event was marked by the beginning-of-year prayer and the countdown to the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijriah. After the turn of the year, the community was invited to join a ta’aruf lantern parade as a symbol of hope that all Lamongan residents will always receive guidance and protection from Allah SWT in building the region.
The Bupati expressed hope that the spirit contained in the Islamic New Year commemoration can be realised through improving personal quality, strengthening social piety, and making real contributions to regional development. With the spirit of togetherness and continuously upheld Islamic values, the Lamongan Regency government is optimistic it can maintain various positive achievements while encouraging the realisation of a more advanced, religious, and competitive Lamongan.
