LAMONGAN — Gresik Customs, the Lamongan Regency Government and related agencies destroyed hundreds of thousands of illegal cigarettes. The destruction took place at Lamongan Regency Square on Monday (26 October 2026).

The cigarettes had been seized by officers between the second quarter and October 2026. Their total value was estimated at Rp1.23 billion, with potential losses to state revenue of around Rp600 million.

The head of Gresik Customs, Raden Muhammad Agus Ekawidjaja, said combating illegal cigarettes was part of Customs’ role in collecting revenue and protecting the public. “The circulation of illegal cigarettes could reduce state revenue while also creating unfair business competition,” he stressed.

Lamongan Regent Yuhronur Efendi, who also attended, praised cross-sector collaboration and public participation in providing information about suspected illegal cigarette distribution. Residents’ support was considered crucial to narrowing the scope for lawbreakers to operate in the regency.

Gresik Customs urged the public to support efforts to combat illegal cigarettes by refraining from buying or trading products that do not comply with regulations. Residents were also encouraged to report suspected violations promptly to the relevant authorities.

Through continued monitoring, enforcement and cooperation, the circulation of illegal cigarettes is expected to be curbed effectively. The effort is also intended to protect state revenue and foster a healthy business climate for the public.
