Lamongan Adds RDF Unit to Optimise Sustainable Waste Management
The Lamongan Regency Government is optimising processing at the Tambakrigadung Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) and Final Processing Site (TPA) on Wednesday (12/8). This step is driven by the goal of reducing the volume of waste entering the landfill.
At the Lamongan TPST, waste processing is carried out through the addition of a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) unit with an existing capacity of 20 tonnes per day.
“This development is expected to further increase the utilisation of waste into alternative fuel while reducing residue that ends up in the landfill,” said Lamongan Regent Yuhronur Efendi during an inspection at the Tambakrigadung TPA on Thursday (13/8).
The visit was intended to ensure that waste management runs optimally while encouraging a reduction in the volume of waste entering the landfill.
TPST management is also strengthened through cooperation with PT Tata Bumi Adilimbah, as set out in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreed in March 2026.
The collaboration forms part of the Lamongan Regency Government’s efforts to build a more integrated and sustainable waste management system.
At the Tambakrigadung TPA, the Lamongan Regency Government is also continuing improvements by implementing a controlled landfill concept. One of the measures undertaken is regular soil covering of the landfill area. This is intended to maintain environmental conditions and control the impact of the final waste processing.
Regent Yes stated that waste management should not only be oriented towards downstream handling, but must also be accompanied by efforts to reduce waste at the source.
“The most important thing is how we continue to reduce the waste entering the landfill. Therefore, strengthening the TPST, utilising RDF, and improving the TPA must go hand in hand with public awareness to reduce and sort waste at the source,” said Regent Yes.
The Lamongan Regency Government is committed to strengthening waste management gradually through increased processing capacity, optimised partnerships, and improved landfill infrastructure.
