PARIS (Reuter): French building materials group Lafarge said
on Tuesday that it planned to build a cement plant with a
capacity of 1.4 million tons in Indonesia.
Lafarge said in a statement that its PT Semen Andalas unit
would build the plant near the city of Medan in the north Sumatra
province.
The project, whose cost was not disclosed, must be approved by
local authorities.
Lafarge controls 56 percent of Semen Andalas, which operates a
cement plant in the Aceh province.
Lafarge said average growth for Indonesia's 26 million ton
cement market may exceed 10 percent over the next years.
