Lady found guilty of abusing RI maid

SINGAPORE: A 30-year-old Singaporean woman was convicted of abuse
for biting, scalding and slashing her Indonesian maid, a
newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The court also heard how Poon Yen Nee dragged her maid,
Mujianti, around by the neck with a towel and pricked her with a
needle, the Straits Times newspaper said.

The newspaper said Poon pleaded guilty on Tuesday and will be
sentenced on Friday. In similar cases of maid abuse, Singapore
courts have issued prison sentences.

The abuse began in March 2003 when Poon grabbed Mujianti and
bit her shoulder because she was unhappy with the way the worker
performed her chores, the paper said.

Poon also cut Mujianti on her back as she slept, slashed her
face for using a dirty plate and flung a kettle filled with hot
water at her, the paper said. --AP
