Lack of transparency

From Media Indonesia

I used to be an employee of PT Mediasarana Multi Finance and
during my term of employment I always showed great dedication and
loyalty to the company. My employment was terminated on March 1,
1998, but until now I haven't got a clear statement about the
status of my dismissal, especially because I haven't received a
written decision from the board of directors concerning my
termination. As a result, there is no certainty yet about
severance pay.

I fully understand that I have been dismissed owing to the
present monetary crisis and that a reduction in staff is an
effort that PT Media Finance has had to make in order to survive.
However, what matters to me is the transparency and objectiveness
of dismissals. I believe the company will act responsibly in this
regard. What I would like to see, however, is a speedier
procedure being applied.

I am convinced that the company's severance process will
comply with prevailing laws and will be implemented in the
knowledge of the Central/Regional Committee for the Settlement of
Labor Disputes (P4D) attached to the Ministry of Manpower. It
might be that this latter institution is responsible for the slow
process. However, clear information regarding this would be very
useful.

In fact, I sent a letter to P4D about a month ago, but have
not received any response/reply from the committee. As a result,
I have become all the more confused. I therefore appeal to
relevant authorities to see to it that this problem is settled in
due time.
