Labuan Bajo Tourism Begins to Recover Following NTT Earthquake, 11 Destinations Reopened
Tourism activities in several destinations in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), are gradually recovering after the Flores region was shaken by an earthquake.
According to monitoring by the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority (BPOLBF), several tourist destinations, accessibility routes, accommodation, and supporting tourism facilities in Labuan Bajo and its surroundings are now back in operation and receiving visitors.
The Acting President Director of BPOLBF, Andhy MT Marpaun, stated that the recovery is being carried out in stages, while still considering the conditions and safety levels in each area.
“The recovery of tourism activities is progressing gradually, taking into account the conditions and safety levels of each respective region,” said Andhy from Labuan Bajo on Monday, 29 August 2026.
Latest monitoring results show that several destinations in Labuan Bajo and West Manggarai have reopened. However, some destinations located in the affected areas remain temporarily closed or are awaiting field condition verification.
One of the areas that has resumed receiving tourists is Komodo National Park. Additionally, several other destinations in West Manggarai have also begun operating, including Puncak Waringin, Batu Cermin, Kelor Island, Liang Ndara, Wae Lolos, Papagarang, Pasir Panjang, Tondong Belang, Siru, and Rangko Cave.
Despite the reopening of several destinations, BPOLBF reminds that tourism activities must still adapt to the current conditions. Tourists are also requested to pay attention to the regulations set by each manager, weather conditions, sea waves, and safety instructions from the authorities.
BPOLBF continues to coordinate with local governments and various stakeholders to obtain the latest information regarding the condition of destinations and the development of tourism activities in Flores.
Tourists are advised to check conditions before departing
Amidst the recovery of the tourism sector, BPOLBF requests that tourists do not ignore safety factors when planning trips to Labuan Bajo.
Tourists are advised to first ensure the condition of the destinations they intend to visit, including road access, ports, flights, and the availability of accommodation.
Instructions from officers and destination managers must also be observed, especially if there are restrictions on the number of tourists or decisions regarding temporary closures.
Latest information can also be monitored through the official channels of BPOLBF, local governments, destination managers, BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency), BNPB (National Disaster Management Agency), KSOP (Sea and Coast Guard), airport managers, and other relevant authorities.
