Labuan Bajo, Sumba, Atambua as Superpriority Areas for Drug Prevention
The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP NTT) is focusing its monitoring of narcotics distribution in three areas: Labuan Bajo, Sumba, and Atambua. “Currently, we are indeed focusing on Labuan Bajo, Sumba, and the border area in Atambua,” said the Head of Eradication and Intelligence of BNNP NTT, Senior Commissioner Sonny W. Siregar, when interviewed on the sidelines of the narcotics-free prison and detention centre pledge event by the NTT Directorate General of Corrections Office, which was also attended by elements from the TNI, Police, BNN, and the NTT Provincial Government, on Friday (8/5/2026). Sonny stated that even with budget efficiencies, these three areas remain the main attention. This is because the regions border other provinces or neighbouring countries. “These three areas are indeed our current concern. However, due to efficiencies, we may need to adjust the situation first, activities in these areas. But certainly, these three areas will be our superpriority,” he explained. “Why they are a priority, for example, Labuan Bajo has direct flights from abroad, the Sumba area is close to Sape, Lombok, and Atambua is a national border. That is why these three areas become our central points and focus,” Sonny clarified.
