Labour unions to expose political parties' seriousness on Manpower Bill

President of the All-Indonesia Workers Union Coalition (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea said that the grand coalition of labour unions will announce to the public which political parties are serious and which are not in discussing the Manpower Bill (RUU Ketenagakerjaan).

He said that the Manpower Bill is a regulation that concerns the livelihood of many people. Therefore, the public also needs to know where political parties stand.

“So we will announce later, there are parties that are so enthusiastic and have complete materials, there are parties that even to this day do not have any draft at all. We know exactly, we have records,” said Andi during a meeting with the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Thursday.

On the other hand, he also asked the DPR leadership to oversee the political party factions in the deliberation of the Manpower Bill.

He expressed hope that once workers, the government, the DPR, and the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) share the same commitment, the bill can be completed before the specified deadline.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal assured that all political parties in the DPR RI already share the same commitment to creating welfare for workers.

“The DPR is all one unified entity fighting together for workers, for the labourers,” said Cucun.

The DPR RI leadership held a meeting with various elements of labour unions at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Thursday, to discuss the form of involvement of all labour unions in the deliberations of the Manpower Bill.

Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that the law being drafted is a new Manpower Law after the Constitutional Court (MK) ordered that labour matters be removed from the Job Creation Law. The MK also set a deadline for the new law to be completed before 31 October 2026.
