A total of 11,261 joint personnel have been deployed to secure a protest organised by labour groups in front of the DPR/MPR Building today, Tuesday (6/10).

AKBP Onkoseno Grandiarso Sukahar, Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, stated that the demonstration is being held by the Great Coalition for the Struggle of Indonesian Labour. It is estimated that approximately 6,000 protesters will participate in the action.

“For this security operation, the joint personnel consist of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, elements of the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), the Jakarta Provincial Government, and the internal security of the DPR. This totals 11,261 personnel,” Onkoseno told reporters on Tuesday.

Onkoseno noted that these personnel will be stationed around the DPR/MPR building area, buffer zones, and along the movement routes of the protesters.

In addition to the labour protest, Onkoseno mentioned that the personnel are also on standby to secure various other public activities taking place within the Jakarta region.

Onkoseno stated that security measures will be carried out in a persuasive and humanistic manner. He ensured that all personnel are following established directions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and will not act outside of their orders or authority.

“All personnel involved in managing this expression of opinion are also prohibited from carrying firearms, sharp weapons, or similar objects, and must maintain a humanistic attitude,” he said.

Furthermore, the police have prepared traffic diversions to anticipate congestion. However, these adjustments will be implemented situationally, depending on the dynamics unfolding at the location.

Additionally, the police have urged protest participants to convey their aspirations in an orderly manner, follow the instructions of officers, protect public facilities, and avoid being provoked.

“For the general public passing through the area around the DPR/MPR, we advise following the latest traffic information and obeying officer instructions so that public activities can continue safely and smoothly. The public can also follow the social media accounts of the Metro Jaya Regional Police and TMC Polda Metro Jaya,” said Onkoseno.

“In principle, the Metro Jaya Regional Police respect the public’s right to express opinions in public. The police are present to provide service so that the expression of aspirations proceeds safely and orderly, while simultaneously protecting the interests of other members of the public,” he added.
