Labour Party Secretary General Ferri Nuzarli Resigns, Citing Fundamental Differences in Direction

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Secretary-General of the Labour Party, Ferri Nuzarli, has resigned along with approximately 1.3 million members and officials of the Organisasi Rakyat Indonesia (ORI) due to differing views regarding the party’s political direction.
Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, Ferri stated that the decision was made following extensive consideration and evaluation.
“This decision was not easy. However, after various considerations and evaluations, we have seen that there are increasingly fundamental differences in views, attitudes, and the direction of our struggle,” Ferri said in a written statement.
He explained that ORI is the political wing of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI) under Andi Gani, established in 2013, and was one of the 11 initiating organisations for the founding of the Labour Party during the first Congress in October 2021.
“With full awareness and responsibility, ORI, which consists of approximately 1.3 million people, has decided to resign effective this Friday,” he said.
Ferri emphasised that the resignation is being conducted amicably and that they intend to maintain fraternal relations with the Labour Party.
He also instructed all ORI officials holding structural positions within the Labour Party—ranging from central, provincial, and regency/city levels to the sub-district level—to immediately submit their resignations administratively.
“Today, we have instructed all ranks of ORI and KSPSI Andi Gani who serve as officials in the Labour Party to immediately prepare resignation letters as an administrative requirement,” he stated.
He likened the relationship between ORI and the Labour Party to a marriage facing prolonged issues, where various attempts at family-style resolution have failed to yield results.
“We have actually tried to resolve these internal issues through family-style mediation for a long time, but the problems continued to mount until, based on evaluations and feedback from all regions, we decided to end it here,” he said.
Regarding the impact of the resignation on the Labour Party, Ferri claimed that ORI, together with KSPSI, represents the largest initiating organisation within the party.
“If asked what percentage of the influence is lost, well, automatically it is half,” Ferri remarked.
He also mentioned that the President of the Labour Party, Said Iqbal, had been informed of the resignation plan since Thursday (25/06) evening.
