Manpower Minister Yassierli has urged companies to involve workers or their unions in planning the work-from-home (WFH) system. Additionally, companies need to build collective awareness in energy usage, which is the primary goal of this directive on the work system. “Encouraging joint innovation to create productive and more adaptive working methods in energy usage,” said Yassierli during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

The directive targets State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD), and private companies, which are advised to implement WFH one day per week. This provision is regulated in the Minister of Manpower’s Circular Letter Number M/6/HK.04/III/2026 on Work From Home and the Energy Utilisation Optimisation Programme in the Workplace.

During office work, said Yassierli, the government urges the use of more energy-efficient technology and work equipment, along with wise usage. There should also be control and monitoring of electricity consumption, fuel oil, and other energy through measurable operational policies. “This will certainly provide benefits for the companies and also for the workers,” he stated.

Yassierli said the WFH directive for BUMN, BUMD, and private companies will be evaluated in the next two months. The same provision applies to Civil Servants (ASN), who will also be evaluated at the same time.

If there are labour violations, Yassierli urged workers to report them through the Lapor Menaker channel. He stated that no employee rights should be reduced during the implementation of WFH. “We have the Lapor Menaker channel, and then our supervisors will follow up,” he said.

The government’s work-from-home directive is a response to the ongoing geopolitical conflict in the Middle East. Oil supplies from the region are disrupted, impacting price increases in the global market. The government is also urging the public to save energy, although there is no fuel price increase this month.
