Labour Minister urges workers to prepare for AI technological developments
Workers must possess the ability to adapt and continuously develop to face changes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Labour Minister (Menaker) Yassierli has urged workers to prepare for technological changes, including the development of artificial intelligence (AI), so that they can enhance their competitiveness and remain relevant in the world of work.
In his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, the Minister said that the level of AI usage in Indonesia is still below the global average. This condition serves as a signal that the world of work is changing rapidly and Indonesia must not be late in preparing its workforce.
“The key is not only in the technology itself, but in how we equip human resources (HR) to be ready. Workers must have the ability to adapt and continuously develop to face changes,” said Yassierli.
According to him, the current challenges in the world of work are no longer limited to protecting normative rights, but also ensuring that workers have adequate competencies to remain relevant amid technological changes.
In that context, the Minister assessed that trade unions need to take a more strategic role. Not only present when work relationship issues arise, but also actively prepare workers to face technological developments, including AI.
This strengthening, he continued, can be implemented through Collective Work Agreements (PKB) between companies and workers, as done recently by PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT) and the Workers’ Union of the Harmony of Employees of PT Pupuk Kaltim.
The Minister also hopes that the recently signed PKB not only creates stability but also serves as an instrument to encourage improvements in workers’ competencies to prepare for future challenges.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, Gusrizal, stated that this VIII PKB is expected to provide legal certainty for all parties while strengthening harmonious, dynamic, and fair industrial relations.
“We hope that this ratification provides legal certainty for all parties in carrying out work relations, while creating harmonious, dynamic, and fair industrial relations to support the continuity of PKT and improve collective welfare,” he said.
