Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, has stated that the target for this year’s National Internship Programme is to extend its reach to all provinces in Indonesia. In a statement made in Jakarta on Wednesday, the Minister said that the government wants the internship programme to be more widely distributed, rather than being concentrated solely in Java, so that more job opportunities are available for young graduates in various regions. “Based on data from MagangHub, there is currently a high concentration of internships on the island of Java. We want this to be distributed so that it is available in each province,” said Yassierli. To achieve this wider distribution, the Ministry of Manpower is preparing to strengthen the internship ecosystem in the regions. The strategy begins with mapping the targets for each province based on its leading sectors and industrial capacity, as well as increasing the number of partners involved in implementing the internship programme, both companies and government agencies. “We are setting realistic targets for each province, based on its leading sectors and industrial capacity, rather than simply aiming for equal distribution,” said Yassierli. He added that each region is encouraged to have a sufficient number of active partners, mentors who are ready to provide guidance, and a clear learning plan to ensure that quality is maintained even as the programme is expanded. Furthermore, the Minister emphasised that the process of selecting internship placements through MagangHub should be made fairer for all regions. Participants will still be free to choose their preferred companies, but the government will make it easier to find companies outside of Java on the platform and make them more attractive to choose, especially those that have good mentoring standards. “Internship participants choose their own preferred companies. So this is also a challenge for companies: how can they ensure that they are chosen by the participants? There is competition among the participants, and also among the companies,” he said. According to Yassierli, companies that are popular with participants must demonstrate a real commitment, including providing structured learning and adequate facilities. Previously, the Minister stated that the payment of living allowances will be based on the verification of the logbook. He also said that this February, the living allowances will follow the 2026 minimum wage for regencies/cities/provinces, in accordance with the applicable regulations.
