Labour Minister States Competency Certification is Crucial for Internship Graduates

Labour Minister Yassierli considers competency certification as an important provision for graduates of the national internship programme to enter the workforce. According to him, competency certification not only serves as formal recognition of participants’ skills but also strengthens their competitiveness in the job market. To support this, the government facilitates certification for participants who have completed the national internship programme. “We provide this competency certification for free as a form of appreciation and capital for the participants. We want internship graduates not only to bring practical experience but also to have formal proof that is widely recognised by industry,” said Yassierli in a press release received by Kompas.com on Wednesday (6/5/2026). The statement was delivered by Yassierli during a review of the national internship programme implementation at PT Yupi Indo Jelly Gum Tbk, Gunung Puteri, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday. He added that several internship participants have been absorbed as permanent employees at the companies where they underwent training. Meanwhile, some other participants are still in the evaluation stage. According to Yassierli, this demonstrates that the business world considers the real contributions of participants during the internship programme. He explained that companies have objective parameters in determining the standards of human resources to be recruited to support productivity. Therefore, internship participants are reminded to demonstrate capacity, competence, and work ethic from the start of the programme. He also expressed appreciation for the collaboration between programme managers, participants, and partner companies. Yassierli hopes that this synergy can be maintained to drive sustainable improvements in human resource quality. “With a combination of field work experience and competency certification, the government is optimistic that the quality of the national workforce will increasingly align with industrial dynamics,” he stated.
