JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Labour Minister Yassierli announced that ride-hailing driver holiday bonuses (Bantuan Hari Raya) will increase this year compared to 2025, following commitments made by digital transportation platform operators.

“In yesterday’s meeting, they made commitments, with some stating they would provide more than last year, which we appreciate,” Yassierli said when met at his office in Jakarta on Friday (27 February 2026).

The minister emphasised that holiday bonus payments must nonetheless consider the financial condition of companies. Last year, bonuses were adjusted based on the activity level of ride-hailing drivers, given the flexible nature of digital transportation work that depends on partner productivity.

“Those working full-time should obviously receive different amounts from part-time workers, since this business model differs from conventional employment,” Yassierli explained.

An estimated 1.2 to 1.5 million active ride-hailing and gig economy workers are expected to receive the holiday bonus. These figures represent full-time active drivers, excluding part-time or occasional workers.

However, Yassierli acknowledged uncertainty about whether the bonus would be mandatory or merely advisory. The Labour Ministry must consult with President Prabowo Subianto on the matter.

“We may meet with the President on Monday or Tuesday, and we will report on all matters related to our meetings with platform operators,” Yassierli stated.

Last year’s Hari Raya holiday, President Prabowo requested that ride-hailing and courier service companies provide holiday bonuses in cash, based on individual driver productivity levels. At that time, there were approximately 250,000 active drivers and 1 to 1.5 million additional part-time workers.

“(The holiday bonus) in cash form, taking into account work activity levels,” Prabowo said at Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday (10 March 2025).
