Labour Minister Reveals Sectors Exempt from WFH Policy

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli has revealed that several sectors of private companies, State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), and Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD) are exempt from the one-day-per-week work-from-home (WFH) policy due to specific operational needs.

“The exhortation (for WFH) does not apply to certain sectors that must continue to work full-time. For example, related to the energy sector, health sector, public services, and so on. So for them, WFH is exempted,” said the Minister in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In detail, the Minister mentioned that the implementation of WFH can be exempted for certain sectors such as the health sector (hospitals, clinics, medical personnel, and pharmaceuticals); the energy sector (oil and gas fuels, and electricity).

Then, the infrastructure sector and public service sector (toll roads, clean water, and waste transportation); the retail/trade sector (basic necessities, direct trade services, markets, and shopping areas).

Furthermore, the industrial and production sector (factories and industries that require physical presence for machine operations and production); the services sector (hospitality, tourism, security, and hospitality).

Next, the food and beverage sector (restaurants, cafes, and culinary businesses); the transportation and logistics sector (passenger transport, goods transport, warehousing, and delivery services); up to the financial sector (banking, non-bank financial institutions, insurance, capital markets, and stock exchanges).

The provision is contained in the Circular Letter (SE) of the Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia Number M/6/HK.04/III/2026 on Work From Home and the Workplace Energy Optimisation Programme.

The circular was signed by Minister of Manpower Yassierli on 31 March 2026. The circular follows up on the directives of President Prabowo Subianto in maintaining national energy resilience.

Previously, Yassierli urged leaders of private companies, BUMN, and BUMD to implement WFH activities for employees one day per week. Companies outside those sectors can implement WFH, effective from today, 1 April 2026.

“We want 1 April to become a national momentum together. So this exhortation should be followed and implemented effectively starting today,” said the Minister.
