Labour Minister: Labour Protection Bill targeted for completion by October
The Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, has revealed that the Labour Protection Bill is targeted to be realised by the end of October 2026.
“Currently, we, along with the House of Representatives (DPR RI), are finalising the new Labour Protection Bill. The target is to finish by October; hopefully, this can be achieved by the end of this month,” Yassierli stated in Jakarta on Sunday.
He expressed hope that the Labour Protection Bill could become a new legacy for labour protection in Indonesia.
“And, God willing, this will become a new legacy regarding labour protection in Indonesia,” he said.
According to Yassierli, 60 per cent of Indonesia’s 155 million-strong workforce is situated within the informal sector, which remains a significant concern.
“This is a concern for us—how they can also continue to receive social protection. Because it is the right of every citizen to obtain social protection,” he added.
Furthermore, Minister Yassier’i hopes that this initiative will result in more equitable regulations for all relevant stakeholders.
Yassierli added that the government is very open to listening to aspirations and input regarding the drafting of the Labour Bill from various stakeholders, ranging from the business and industrial sectors to labour union representatives.
In his view, the various aspirations from stakeholders are a vital part of the labour regulation drafting process.
Previously, the Ministry of Manpower received an audience from the Great Coalition of the Indonesian Labour Struggle (KBPBI) in Jakarta on Wednesday (2/9/2026).
During the audience, the KBPBI presented several inputs and recommendations regarding the strengthening of labour regulations, which are expected to provide protection for workers while supporting the interests of the business world.
Meanwhile, the President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, expressed gratitude for the reception and the opportunity provided by the Minister and his staff to convey the aspirations of labourers.
Andi hopes that the various inputs presented during the audience can serve as consideration during the discussions with the House of Representatives (DPR RI).
