Labour Minister: Creative Industry Plays Role in Developing National Internship Programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that the creative industry can play a role in becoming a laboratory for the development of the National Internship Programme.
In his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, Yassierli assessed that the sector is capable of providing a different work learning space, while also opening up employment absorption opportunities from the new economy sector that continues to grow.
“We see this as something positive. The creative industry is a sector that needs to be supported because it can open up job opportunities and foster industry in Indonesia,” said the Minister.
According to him, the creative industry has a distinctive character because it demands adaptation, creativity, collaboration, and precise execution.
Therefore, he continued, that sector can become a good learning space for testing and enriching the implementation model of the national internship outside of conventional sectors.
In addition, Yassierli assessed that if managed well, the creative industry can not only become an effective workplace learning environment but also has the potential to open new job opportunities and support national industry growth.
Meanwhile, he said that the government wants the National Internship Programme to truly provide real work experience, guidance, and strengthening of competencies relevant to the needs of the work world.
The Minister added that the programme is designed so that participants obtain six months of work experience through mentor guidance, as well as daily learning activity recording as part of competency development evaluation.
“With that pattern, participants are expected not only to undergo the internship period but also to experience measurable skill improvements,” he said.
Yassierli emphasised that the main goal of the internship programme is not merely to have participants directly recruited as permanent workers, but to prepare them to be more ready to compete in the job market.
“The main target of the internship is to prepare the workforce to be ready to work. Before the internship, many participants are fresh graduates without experience. After six months, they have work experience and an internship certificate so their competencies improve,” he stated.
Nevertheless, Yassierli revealed that in practice, not a few companies ultimately recruit internship participants after seeing their abilities and contributions during the programme.
According to him, this becomes a positive impact of the internship programme, although it is not its main goal.
“In some places, companies eventually recruit participants because they have worked together for six months and are deemed ready. That is indeed not the main goal, but it becomes a positive impact of this programme,” he said.
