Labour Minister Assures State's Presence in Supporting Workers' Welfare
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Manpower Yassierli has assured the presence of the state in supporting the protection and welfare of workers through various government regulations and policies. “All of these are designed to provide and ensure that the state is present in offering protection and welfare to workers,” Yassierli stated in an official video from the Ministry of Manpower in Jakarta on Friday. He mentioned that some concrete manifestations of these policies include a significant increase in the minimum wage (UM) for 2026, taking into account the decent living needs, economic growth, and inflation rates in each region. Furthermore, the government is reintroducing holiday bonuses (BHR) for online drivers and couriers, as well as Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Insurance (JKM) at 50 percent for non-wage recipient participants. “We at the Ministry of Manpower are also implementing various upskilling and reskilling programmes through the National Vocational Training for not only job seekers but also workers, including programmes related to OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) and productivity improvement,” Yassierli said. He added that the government is also striving to strengthen social dialogue as a means to build optimal communication with workers. “By optimising the existence of the National Tripartite Communication Forum, which includes elements from workers, industry representatives, and the government,” he stated. On the occasion of International Labour Day 2026, Minister Yassierli expressed his appreciation to workers who play a significant role in national economic growth. “I extend my congratulations on International Labour Day 1 May 2026 to all Indonesian workers. Thank you for your hard work so far as constitutional fighters to realise welfare for all Indonesian workers,” Yassierli said. “We certainly hope that May Day 2026, themed ‘Collaboration Together to Realise Industrial Progress and Workers’ Welfare’, will proceed safely and peacefully, because we are all united in one determination, one goal, prosperity together. Happy Labour Day, long live the workers, onward Indonesia,” he added.
