Labour Leader Said Iqbal Claims Appointment as Presidential Advisor This Afternoon
President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate several state officials at the State Palace in Central Jakarta this afternoon. Among those to be appointed is the President of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal.
“Yes, at 16:30 at the palace. I was called last night by the Cabinet Secretary, Lt Col Teddy,” Said told CNBC Indonesia on Monday (8/6/2024).
He stated that he has been entrusted with the role of Special Advisor to the President for Labour, with a position equivalent to a minister, in accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 137/2024.
Previously, the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, had signalled that Said might join the Red and White Cabinet. Prasetyo shared this information when questioned by journalists at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Thursday (4/6/2024).
“We are currently discussing it,” said Prasetyo. “It is likely related to his long-standing struggle for labourers and workers,” he added, when asked whether the appointment would be as a minister or within the National Labour Welfare Council (DKBN).
