President of the All-Indonesian Confederation of Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, has assured that the International Labour Day or May Day celebration in 2026 will not utilise funds from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). He guarantees that the costs of mobilising the event will not burden the state. “I emphasise that the costs for this year’s May Day will not use APBN from any ministry; there is none. Not a single penny of state funds will be used; I know this precisely,” said Andi Gani during a press conference on preparations for May Day 2026 in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/4/2026). He revealed that all the needs for the event come from self-funding and mutual cooperation among parties concerned with the labour movement. “It is based on the good hands that care about the Indonesian labour movement. So there is no funding from the Ministry of Manpower, the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, or any other funds, friends,” he stated. “So it’s purely 100 per cent from the hands of good people who care about the labour movement,” he continued. Nevertheless, Andi Gani did not deny that the event would incur significant costs. He guaranteed no involvement from large companies or oligarchs behind the funding of the event. “I assure you, there are no oligarchs, no big entrepreneurs whatsoever covering the costs of May Day. I guarantee it 1,000 per cent. There will be no story of conglomerates paying afterwards; I assure you there is none,” he stressed. Andi Gani explained that the main strength of the funding for May Day 2026 is the spirit of mutual cooperation from the workers themselves. This is because many members independently fund their own transportation and meals. “Oh, I cannot disclose the costs. Because it’s all through mutual cooperation; just imagine. So I cannot say the amount, but imagine how much that would be in terms of basic foodstuffs,” said Andi Gani. “Many are self-sufficient. Some pay for their own buses, some bring their own food. Even factory work unit leaders (PUK-PUK) prepare their own meals and snacks to bring,” he explained. Regarding the T-shirts and umbrellas to be distributed to the labour masses, Andi Gani stated that these items are gifts from President Prabowo Subianto. Both items were even designed directly by Prabowo since March. “This special gift from the President has been prepared in very large quantities, and it is from his personal funds,” revealed Andi Gani. For information, the May Day 2026 celebration will be centred in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026). As many as 400,000 people are predicted to attend the event. President Prabowo Subianto is said to attend the event. Prabowo is also scheduled to deliver a state speech and strategic policies for workers in 2026.
