Labour Law Passed, Dasco Urges Uninterrupted Struggle for Workers' Rights
The Daily Chairman of the Gerindra Party and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, delivered a message to labour groups following the passage of the Labour Protection Law by the DPR RI and the government on Tuesday, 6 October 2026.
Delivering an oration before the masses gathered under the Great Coalition for the Struggle of Indonesian Labour, Dasco stated that the ratification of the Labour Protection Law represents the fulfilment of promises made by the Parliament and the government to workers.
According to Dasco, the passage of the law was carried out in accordance with the Constitutional Court’s decision, which mandated that the Labour Protection Law be finalised by October 2026.
Dasco: DPR and Government Fulfill Promises
Addressing the labour masses, Dasco stated that the DPR RI and the government, under President Prabowo Subianto, have honoured their commitment regarding the completion of the Labour Protection Law. He specifically noted 6 October 2026 as the pivotal moment when the regulation was finally passed during the DPR RI plenary session.
“Comrades belonging to the Great Coalition for the Struggle of Indonesian Labour,” Dasco began his speech. “Today, the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia and the government, in this case President Prabowo Subianto, have fulfilled their promise in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court.”
Dasco further emphasised that the completion of the law met the established target. “The Labour Protection Law had to be completed by October 2026. And today, 6 October 2026, during the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, the Labour Protection Law of the Republic of Indonesia has just been passed,” he stated.
This announcement was met with cheers from the attending labour groups, with shouts of “Long live the workers!” echoing through the crowd following his announcement.
Described as a Gift for Workers
In his oration, Dasco also described the ratification of the Labour Protection Law as a gift for workers. He linked this momentum to the ongoing efforts of employees in fighting for their rights.
“This is a gift for all of us,” Dasco told the crowd.
Despite the law being passed, Dasco urged workers to continue their struggle for their rights. He expressed his hope that such efforts would be carried out consistently even after the Labour Protection Law has been officially enacted.
