Labour Groups Present Aspirations During Audience with House of Representatives
The labour group members of the Great Coalition for the Struggle of Indonesian Labour (KBPBI), who held a demonstration in front of the DPR RI building in Central Jakarta, held an audience with the House of Representatives. The labour masses hope to be involved in the formulation of the Labour Protection Bill.
“Our hope is that during the ratification process, as the time remaining is less than 10 days, labour unions can be involved specifically in the editorial discussions. This is very crucial and very important,” said the National Action Coordinator of KBP_B_I, Sunarno, at the protest site on Tuesday (29/09/2026).
Sunarno noted that the Labour Protection Bill is expected to be passed around 6 October. He requested that the DPR incorporate the demands desired by labourers into the Labour Protection Bill.
“Today, we are reiterating that in the ratification of the Labour Protection Bill—which information suggests will occur on 6 October, or perhaps 7 October—we urge consideration. Because the current draft does not yet accommodate the crucial issues we have previously raised, we are certainly reminding them again,” he said.
Sunarno stated that KBPBI is continuing its efforts to engage in dialogue with the DPR. He revealed that the group plans to hold a major protest on the scheduled date of the Labour Protection Bill’s ratification.
“We from this Great Coalition are still making efforts. In addition to dialogue, communication, and active participation, we are also planning a large-scale action on 6 October. At the very least, we will act on 6 October if that is indeed the ratification date. However, if it is postponed, we will naturally follow that schedule,” he said.
Previously, the House leadership received 11 representatives from the labour groups protesting at the DPR RI. The DPR leadership listened to the inputs provided by the labourers during today’s protest.
The meeting took place in the Abdul Muis room of the Kura-kura building, DPR RI, Jakarta, on Tuesday (29/09). The labourers were received by the Deputy Chairmen of the DPR, Saan Mustopa and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal.
Saan initially expressed his gratitude to the labour representatives for their attendance. He ensured that the inputs from the labour representatives would be followed up on within the Working Committee (Panja).
“We thank you all for being here to convey various aspirations and demands. Whatever has been presented by all of you will be followed up and communicated, specifically within the Working Committee. Mr. Cucun will provide further details,” Saan said during the meeting.
