Labour Demonstration in Jakarta Today: Beware of Traffic Jams on Several Road Sections

JAKARTA - A labour demonstration in Jakarta today is likely to cause traffic jams on several road sections, particularly around the DPR/MPR RI Building, Senayan, and the vicinity of the National Monument (Monas), on Thursday (16/4/2026).

The Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI) along with the Labour Party is scheduled to hold the action starting at 10:00 WIB as part of a series of “Pre-Mayday” demonstrations ahead of International Labour Day on 1 May 2026.

KSPI President and Labour Party President, Said Iqbal, stated that thousands of workers from the Jabodetabek region will take to the streets and crowd the area in front of the main entrance of the DPR RI Building.

In addition, Jalan Gerbang Pemuda and Jalan Asia Afrika in Senayan are also likely to experience slowed traffic flow as they are the main access routes to the area.

The impact of congestion is also expected to spread to other nearby roads, although the traffic conditions are situational and highly dependent on the number of participants, arrival times, and traffic engineering implemented.

Motorists planning to pass through the Senayan area are urged to anticipate potential density, especially in the morning to afternoon when the crowd begins to gather.

Road users are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid vehicle build-up around the DPR.

In addition, the public can monitor the latest traffic information from relevant agencies such as the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency or the Polda Metro Jaya TMC for field updates.
