Labour Demonstration Held in Gambir Today, 1,446 Police Officers on Standby

JAKARTA — Labour groups will hold a demonstration in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 9 February 2026.

The Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Erlyn Sumantri, stated that the labour demonstration will take place around Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan and the Patung Kuda monument.

“Today there is a demonstration from the Central Leadership Board of the National Workers’ Union and several other mass organisations,” said Erlyn in her written statement.

In response to these plans, 1,446 combined police personnel have been placed on standby to ensure security for today’s demonstration.

Meanwhile, traffic engineering at the demonstration site will be implemented situationally, taking into account the number of crowds present on the ground.

Erlyn urged the public to avoid the demonstration area to prevent traffic congestion.

“Residents can seek alternative routes whilst the demonstration is taking place,” she said.
