Labour Day: President Ensures Continued Protection of Workers' Interests
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has assured that the government will continue to monitor and protect workers’ interests, including in cases of threats of termination of employment relations (PHK), as part of efforts to guarantee public welfare. According to a statement received in Jakarta on Friday, the President announced that he has ratified Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 10 of 2026 on the Establishment of the Task Force for Mitigating Termination of Employment Relations (PHK) as a concrete step by the government to continuously protect workers. “Do not worry, we will defend the interests of labourers. For those threatened with PHK, we will defend and protect you all,” said President Prabowo during the International Labour Day (May Day) commemoration at Monas. The Head of State emphasised that the government will always ensure workers remain protected in any situation. According to him, the state will continue to be present to guarantee their welfare. The establishment of the PHK Mitigation Task Force on International Labour Day is expected to serve as a symbol of strong commitment that the state is present not only when the economy is growing, but also when the people face pressures, protecting, defending, and ensuring that no worker is left to fall alone. In line with this, Prabowo also conveyed that the government will strengthen social protection for low-income citizens. This policy is part of the government’s comprehensive efforts to safeguard and protect the public. “We are also providing very significant social protection. This year, we are providing protection for low-income citizens amounting to Rp500 trillion,” he said. On that occasion, the President also stated that he always instructs all his subordinates to always take policies that benefit the people. This step simultaneously reaffirms the government’s alignment with the public.
