Labour Day Action on 1 May: Residents Urged to Avoid Monas Area

JAKARTA - Traffic flow in Jakarta, particularly around the National Monument in Central Jakarta, is predicted to be congested during the Labour Day commemoration tomorrow, Friday (1/5/2026).

However, situational traffic engineering will only be enforced once traffic becomes congested.

“If the flow is still crawling densely, still queuing slowly, then there is no need for traffic diversion,” said the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, when met at East Intersection Monas, Thursday (30/4/2026).

This is because it is predicted that 220,000 workers will join in enlivening the Labour Day commemoration at Monas tomorrow.

In addition, there will also be demonstrations around the DPR/MPR RI Building with an estimated number of participants reaching 5,000 to 7,000 people.

“Well, we also need to understand that Labour Day is already a red date. So for residents, schools, offices are already on holiday. Well, this is so as to minimise activities outside,” Budi stated.

Director of Traffic of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Komarudin, said that traffic diversions will be carried out towards Sarinah, Harmoni, and Tugu Tani if density occurs.

“This will start to be diverted by us or we reduce the volume so as to anticipate the density that becomes longer and longer,” Komarudin said when met separately.
