Labour Day 2026: Hundreds of Thousands of Participants to Pack Monas, Prabowo Scheduled to Attend
JAKARTA - The International Labour Day (May Day) commemoration will be held at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta today, Friday (1/5/2026).
President of the All-Indonesian Confederation of Labour Unions (KSPSI) and May Day organising committee chairman, Andi Gani Nena Wea, stated that around 400,000 workers are expected to participate in the event at Monas.
Additionally, President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the event starting at 08:00 WIB.
“The President will then greet the labour masses, followed by him taking the stage,” he continued.
Subsequently, all May Day participants will sing the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya. The event will proceed with speeches from the labour union presidents.
Twenty-five labour union presidents are scheduled to attend the May Day commemoration at Monas.
“It will then be followed by the speech from the President of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Andi Gani.
After that, the President, along with the 25 labour leaders, will sing the international labour struggle anthem.
The May Day agenda today coincides with Friday, so the organising committee has prepared a place for Friday prayers at the location.
“What is the surprise? Let the President convey it. He will announce matters related to online ojek, ILO ratification, and several policies that he will deliver for workers’ welfare,” he said during a press conference in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
Meanwhile, traffic flow in Jakarta, particularly around Monas in Central Jakarta, is predicted to be congested during the 2026 Labour Day commemoration.
However, traffic engineering will be situational, only implemented when traffic flow becomes congested.
“If the flow is still crawling densely, still queuing slowly, there is no need for traffic diversion,” said the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, when met at Monas East Intersection, Thursday (30/4/2026).
