Laborer's rights

Laborer's rights

From Merdeka

The workers' demonstrations taking place in some industries in Surabaya and its surrounding areas are an indication that there are some companies still reluctant to abide by the instruction of the minister of manpower concerning the right of the workers to get a pay increase and be paid overwork.

The pay increment will help alleviate the burden of the workers' lives. In the meantime, one company in Tandes, Surabaya, was reported to have sacked one of its workers who had worked with the company for three years without giving severance money.

The unfortunate worker brought the case to the provincial Manpower Office. It is hoped that the authorities will be fair in handling the matter in compliance with its role of providing protection for Indonesian workers.
