Labor unrest in Ungaran

UNGARAN, Central Java: Around 230 workers of PT Golden Flower, a garment company, staged a strike yesterday, demanding a wage increase to Rp 3,000 a day in line with the government-set minimum wage level.

Sutrisno, representing the protesters, said they were paid only Rp 70,000 per month, or around Rp 2,300 per day.

"The company should pay us Rp 3,000 per day, or Rp 90,000 monthly," he said.

The workers are demanding that the management provide them with health, transportation and food allowances as well as overtime pay. (har)
