Labor problems
From Suara Pembaruan
Workers' demonstrations are on the increase. A demonstration
is always related to the problem of workers' survival, and as
such it concerns the issue of the minimum wage.
As a social group, the workers are responsible for the
survival of their families and the society as a whole. They are
fully aware that being employed they can take care of themselves
and do not have to trouble other members of the society.
This sense of responsibility serves as a strong motivation for
someone to work in order to be able to satisfy the basic needs of
life which in turn provide a feeling of security. This security
will be upset if injustice prevails in the working environment.
Practices of injustice may lead to instability in the workers'
minds which influences their morale, even though productivity is
still maintained. In such a condition the workers' emotion is
prone to agitation.
The problems of workers cannot be settled through mathematics
or military power, but by applying human values and improving
the societal mentality. In other words, a sociological approach
is the best way to solve human problems.
