Labor exporter admits to 'dirty' business

MATARAM, East Nusa Tenggara: A labor exporter admitted on Monday that many labor exporters engaged in "dirty" business to make as much money as possible.

The president of PT Amestara Raya Corp., Lilik Mardiyono, said that many labort supplying companies usually tried many different ways to amass benefits, including treating workers as goods.

"It is true that the business of overseas workers is 'dirty'; even I have been dragged into it. It's hard to resist because we can become bankrupt if we do not do it," he said.

Lilik mentioned that labor exporters needed to purchase "job orders" from those users requesting migrant workers if the wished to send the workers abroad, while in the past, they usually received large payments from users.

"Actually, we were stupid for buying the job orders, but if we do not play the game, we cannot operate our company. I hope all labor exporters can stop this practice so that users will be short of workers and therefore willing to pay for our services and travel expenses again," he said. --Antara
